UPDATED DATE: Sunday, April 19,2026. 10:00 am - 1:00pm. Rain date: Sunday April 26.

Looking for Simsbury and Canton High School Students Interested in Helping Build this New Trail

A cooperative effort between Canton Land Conservation Trust (CLCT) and Simsbury Land Trust (SLT) to engage high school students in building a low-impact trail connecting the two towns over the Onion Mountain ridge.

The new trail is approximately .96 miles long and is entirely on Canton Land Trust properties in Canton. It will connect the Blue Orange Trail with the Brewster Blue Trail, that will go down to the Roaring Brook Nature Center Trails.

Volunteers should wear long pants, sturdy boots or shoes and dress for the weather. Bring tick protection and hydration.

This project was initiated by Jonah Lipar, a Simsbury High School Senior and member of the Simsbury Land Trust and Youth Conservation Corps (SLTYCC).

Directions: We will meet at the Blue Onion Mountain Trailhead near 164 West Mountain Road in Simsbury. Parking is along the roadside. We will leave the trailhead on or before 10:00 am. It is approximately a .75 walk along existing trails to where the extension trail will start going southward towards Roaring Brook Nature Center.
